Terms and conditions

Application

Students can apply for Maastricht Summer School through DreamApply. A complete application includes: (1) A fully completed application form. (2) Submission of all required supporting documentation (as specified on the DreamApply platform).

Applications are reviewed once they are complete. Acceptance of a student’s application is considered provisional and subject to payment. Upon provisional acceptance, students will receive a unique payment link to complete their enrolment. The payment link provides various secure payment options, including credit card and other commonly used methods.

Payment

To confirm their enrolment, students must complete the payment promptly using the provided link. Payment links will remain open for 10 days after being sent to a student. Failure to complete payment before the deadline will result in the link closing. In such cases, students must then submit a new application or contact Maastricht Summer School via email (summerschool@maastrichtuniversity.nl) for an extension, which may have implications for the application deadline and availability of spots.

Enrolment is only finalized once the payment has been successfully processed and received by Maastricht University.

Terms and Conditions

By submitting an application form, the student confirms that they:

1. Have read and understood the terms and conditions of Maastricht Summer School.

2. Agree to comply with all Maastricht Summer School regulations and Maastricht University’s code of conduct for students.

Deadlines

Application deadlines vary depending on the start date of each course. Students should refer to the DreamApply website to determine the specific deadline for the course(s) they wish to apply for, see https://maastricht.dreamapply.com/courses.

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Accessibility

To ensure that appropriate accommodations are in place to make studying easier for you, please contact the Maastricht Summer School office at least two weeks before the start of your course. We will coordinate with Maastricht University’s disability support office on your behalf to provide the necessary assistance.

Placement and admission

Maastricht Summer School reserves the right to assess a student’s qualifications, academic background, and entry level to determine their eligibility and admission to the selected course.

Course Capacity: In cases where a course reaches its enrolment limit, places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the receipt of a completed application and payment.

Waitlist: If a course reaches capacity, students may be placed on a waitlist and will be notified if spots become available.

Eligibility Criteria: Students may be required to meet specific academic or language proficiency requirements. Supporting documentation, such as transcripts or proof of language proficiency, may be requested during the application review.

ECTS credits

The number of ECTS credits earned upon successful completion of a course is determined in accordance with Maastricht University’s guidelines for ECTS credit calculation. At Maastricht University, 1 ECTS credit is equivalent to 28 hours of workload, which includes among others class time, study, and assignments. The specific number of credits will be calculated and determined by Maastricht Summer School’s Education Office based on the content and structure of the course. The number of ECTS credits per course cannot be negotiated.

Please consult with your home university or relevant faculty to confirm whether these credits will be accepted as part of your program, to what extent, and if necessary, how they will be converted to your home institution’s credit system.

Credit Recognition: Upon successful completion of your course, you will receive an official academic transcript that outlines the number of ECTS credits earned.

For any questions regarding ECTS credit calculations, or if you need assistance with credit conversion, please contact the Education Office directly at ces-educationoffice@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

Cancellation by Maastricht Summer School

Maastricht Summer School reserves the right to cancel a course if it does not meet the minimum number of participants or for any other reason deemed necessary.

Students will be notified about the status of the course no later than one week after the application deadline.

In the event of a course cancellation, students will receive a full refund of the tuition fee. However, please note that any additional costs such as travel, accommodation, or visa fees are not covered and will not be refunded.

Furthermore, Maastricht Summer School (and the legal entity Maastricht University) is not liable for any damages, losses, or expenses incurred as a result of the cancellation.

Cancellation by the student

Maastricht Summer School (MSS) incurs costs for each student we register, which is why we have established the following cancellation regulations:

Withdrawals made 8 weeks or more before the start of the program: No cancellation fee will be charged, and a full refund of the tuition fee will be issued.

Withdrawals made between 8 and 4 weeks before the start of the program: MSS will charge 50% of the tuition fee, which the student is obligated to pay.

Withdrawals made within 4 weeks of the program’s start date: MSS will charge 100% of the tuition fee, which the student is obligated to pay.

Please note that exceptions to these cancellation regulations will only be considered in exceptional cases and are reviewed strictly on a case-by-case basis. However, Maastricht Summer School is generally unable to accommodate most exceptions. Students should therefore not rely on exemptions and are strongly advised to have appropriate travel insurance that covers cancellations and unforeseen circumstances. Maastricht Summer School emphasizes the importance of carefully reviewing the coverage conditions of their insurance policy to ensure adequate protection.

Important Information:

Email Notification: To officially withdraw from the course, you must contact us via email. Other methods of withdrawal will not be considered valid.

Visa Denial: The refund policy is strictly based on the timing of the withdrawal, as described above under points (a) to (c) in this article, and not on visa issues or other personal circumstances. Students who withdraw due to a denied visa do not receive any special cancellation and refund options. The standard refund policy (as described above under points (a) to (c) in this article) applies in full.

Non-Refundable Costs: Please note that MSS (the legal entity Maastricht University) will never reimburse additional costs such as travel, accommodation, or visa fees, including in the event of a cancellation. Furthermore, MSS (the legal entity Maastricht University) is not liable for any damages, losses, or expenses incurred as a result of the cancellation.

No-Shows and Partial Attendance: Students who do not attend the course without prior formal withdrawal, or who attend part of the course and then withdraw, are not eligible for a refund. The full tuition fee applies based on the timing of the withdrawal and they therefor remain fully liable for payment of the total amount.

For withdrawal requests or further questions, please contact us via email at summerschool@maastrichtuniversity.nl
